One of the best books on the subject of Hold 'Em poker that we've found, Championship No-Limit & Pot-Limit Hold 'Em can probably be classified as part of the "if you only own one poker book..." category. Authors T.J. Cloutier and Tom McEvoy do a great job of translating their combined years of experience to the reader. It's not really a beginner's book, but the only thing missing is a --very-- basic "rules of the game"-type discussion. Everything you need for tournament play, from starting hands by table position to the suggested ways for playing in different stages of a tournament to how to practice for tournaments, is covered here.
Pot-limit Hold 'Em isn't as popular as No-Limit, so the sections on Pot-Limit strategy and tournament play are valuable to those who wish to try Pot-Limit play. Of course, for most players the section entitled "How to Win No-Limit Hold 'Em Tournaments" will be of the greatest interest. Both T.J. Cloutier and Tom McEvoy have won dozens of No-Limit tournaments in their careers and the information they provide can benefit both beginning and experienced players.
The "No-Limit Hold 'Em Practice Hands" section is a subset of the hands you'll find in the book "Championship Tournament Practice Hands", also by Cloutier and McEvoy. Well worth studying. Finally, a "Tales from T.J." chapter is an entertaining batch of stories from Cloutier's career.
Championship No-Limit & Pot-Limit Hold 'Em is a book that's sure to be a worthwhile investment for any player.
